NEW VOCABULARIES FROM SCRABBLE


1. Trug

  • a shallow rectangular gardening basket
  • Example: This handmade trug, a British-style gardening basket, was literally created for the job.

2. Befoul

  • to make foul (as with dirt or waste)
  • Example: unsightly mud and slush befouls the family car every winter


3.  Bidis

  • a small hand-rolled often flavored cigarette made chiefly in India
  • Example: It is mainly used to wrap tobacco and manufacture bidi (a form of cigarette).


4.  Jowls

  • usually slack flesh (such as a dewlap, wattle, or the pendulous part of a double chin) associated with the cheeks, lower jaw, or throat
  • Example:  Not out of exuberant joy, but just to hide my emerging jowls.


5. Volant

  • flying or capable of flying; having the wings extended as if in flight\
  • Example:  There were volant ruffles giving architecture to the body and reinterpreted polka dots.


6. Torqued

  •  a force that produces or tends to produce rotation or torsion; a turning or twisting force
  • Example: Likewise, being too heavy-handed or trying to torque the screw too quickly can have the same effect.


7. Soupier 

  •  having the consistency of soup
  • Example:  The gravy was too soupy.


8. Sternal

  •  of or relating to the sternum
  •  Example: The sternal head also assists in shoulder adduction.


9. Ghat

  • a broad flight of steps that is situated on an Indian riverbank and that provides access to the water especially for bathing
    •  Example: Millions of pilgrims flock to its temples and ghats -- or riverbank -- every year.
